Unit Focus:
Spelling: Spelling Unit 13
(your child should have them listed in
their homework folder section)
Math: Our current unit is fractions and decimals. This week I introduced the
following vocabulary words: fraction,
numerator, and denominator. We discussed how to write a fraction, how to read a fraction, and we are currently working on parts of a whole. We begin
equivalent fractions next week.
Please review your child’s homework daily and continue to work on their times tables.
Social Studies: We are studying government for the next several weeks. We will begin with local government. Look for vocabulary words for this unit soon.
Reading: Please have your child bring in a book (any book on their level) that they wish to read for our reading workshop time. This book will need to travel back and forth from school and home daily. We will use this book during class time and students will be responsible for reading at least 20 minutes at home each night.
Writing: Our third quarter writing focus is: Informative Writing. We will be working on ‘How to’ papers and research
papers.
